This is my First blog post. I am new to blogging so if I am doing something wrong please mention it in the comments below.

Let me utilize my first post by talking about bioinformatics in general, and How I would like to conduct m Blog?

Bioinformatics is a vast subject, It is a union of two even more extensive fields, Biology and Informatics. So basically it encompasses every method that requires a computer for analyzing any biological data.

Now according to me there are two components to Bioinformatics

1. Programming and Algorithm Development: This is the component where the actual tools are developed, so here the knowledge of Information Technology plays a more important role.
2. Application of the available tools: This is the component where the real translation of information to knowledge takes place. Here the role of Biology plays a more prominent role, as one has to have an idea of  what is happening in nature in order to know which analysis pathway to follow.

Many bioinformaticians have a preference of which component they have a more binding interest in, but the truth is, to be a good bioinformatician one needs  to have skills, knowledge and interest in both components in equal ratios. It shouldn’t be like lack of interest or aptitude in coding will hamper my research, nor should the lack of  basic understanding of underlying mechanism hamper the coding of new tools or development of new algorithms.

So on this platform I will try my best to shed light on both components equally. I will also try my best to get prominent personalities to give their thoughts on various topics in bioinformatics. I also welcome you to write up your thoughts on topics you find dear and I will gladly let you publish them here.
